The Book Test

Sooo......Miss Rachel tagged me in a book quiz, nothing like a gentle nudge to get back to blogging, right? :)  I needed this, so thanks Rachel.

I tried not to read any of her answers when I copied and pasted the questions (and resisted the urge to google other peoples answers).

What are your top three book pet peeves?
1) Book covers that are remade with pictures of the movie actors.  Bleck.
2) When I flip a book over it should show me a brief synopsis of the book not quotes other people have said about the book.  It's not the same people.
3)  This may be more Kindle related than book related, but it's still a pet peeve.  I keep an eye on the percent of the book I have read, so I am aware that the end of the book is coming up, you know to brace myself (sometimes I have book withdrawal).  I hate when a Kindle book ends at like 80% because the last pages are reviews or author notes or some other random stuff.  I feel like I am getting the short end of the stick and I am expecting to be able to read more, and it just stinks.  Along those same lines, if I am reading a book and the end is 'to be continued' in the next book that makes me mad.

Describe your perfect reading spot?
My sofa.  I tried to get comfy in my bed, but I end up just moving around 17 times and can't ever get comfortable.

Tell us three book confessions.
I don't entirely know what this means?  I feel like maybe I need to lead a more exciting life....
1)  If I am bored with a book I am already committed to (at least 1/2 finished) I skip to the next chapter (or the end).
2)  If I have limited time (which is always, because my daughter is always standing next to me in the library waiting until we get to the kid's area) I walk up and down the aisles and grab every book that looks pretty, take them to the kid's area, read the backs to narrow my selection down to about 5 and take those home.  It is a horrible method for choosing books, but I get a large variety of topics and authors :)
3)  Before Little Mister arrived I read all the time.  If I got really into a book (or series) I would be so wrapped up in my book I would forget to feed my daughter.  She would come in the room and ask for goldfish or a snack and I would hand her the entire package and get back to my book.....and after she ate the entire bag, she would tell  me she had a belly ache and she needed more food.  Parenting FAIL.

When was the last time you cried during a book?
This last January.  I was 8 months pregnant, reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth (one of the stories at the beginning) and I was a hormonal hot mess :)

How many books are on your bedside table?
0 or possibly 170 depends on your stance on e-readers?  I have a Kindle at my bedside but no physical books.  :)

What is your favorite snack to eat while you’re reading?
My initial reaction to this question was nothing.  I eat nothing while reading, but that's not really true.
I have different food preferences for different types of books.
If I am really into the book I like popcorn or crunchy food.  The less I like a book the less crunchy the food, the exception being chocolate.  Chocolate goes well with any book.  Oh and muffins.  Yea pretty much any food I can eat with my fingers.    Oh and coffee of course, or lemonade.

Name three books you would recommend to everyone:

1 Serve God, Save the Planet by Matthew Sleeth M.D.

2 The Curious Incident of the dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon

3  To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Show us a picture of your favorite shelf on your bookcase:
I am packing......we have no books in our house except for library books and homeschooling stuff.
It. Is. Depressing.

Write how much books mean to you in three words:
Books change lives.

What is your biggest reading secret?
Again, I feel like I need to lead a more adventurous life...
I love reading, however I don't necessarily love collecting books for 2 reasons.
1) Although I think it would be cool to have a giant home library I never feel like my books look like they are properly displayed.  Should I fill up the whole bookshelf with only books?  How should they be arranged on the shelf (ie so they look pretty by color or so they are easy to find, by author?)
2) I want others to enjoy the books, so more often than not if I buy a book, I try to pass it on to someone else who will enjoy it, because I want them to get enjoyment out of it too, and realistically I don't re-read books very often because there are so many new ones out there I need to check out.

Okie, Dokie Ansley and Audrey I am calling you out, and want to see your answers :)

  1. This was great! I don't like it either when they change the book cover to fit the movie :(
